Just days after backing off its pledge to produce 250,000 hybrids annually, Ford says it will team up with Volvo to create a hybrid research center.
The Gothenberg, Sweden center will employ 20 researchers whose technology will be used by both companies in future hybrid vehicles, according to a press release on The Auto Channel.
Volvo is also investing $1.4 billion in environmental technologies to improve (although the press release says reduce) fuel economy and reduce emissions.
It's interesting that Ford is talking up European hybrids when the region already has millions of equally fuel-efficient diesels on the roads, unless they are planning diesel hybrids. Perhaps the company wasn't happy with its technology and is starting anew.
