A senior VP at Toyota says plug-in hybrids may come sooner than the company previously anticipated, and President Bush continues to be bullish on the technology's prospects.
Earlier this year Toyota reversed itself by saying that it was indeed interested in cars with batteries that could be recharged through an extension cord, and was developing a plug-in hybrid.
In a speech in Kentucky this week, Dennis Cuneo, Toyota senior vice president said the company was optimistic that the battery technology needed was closer to being viable than previously thought.
The President continuesto beat the plug-in hybrid drum, again talking up the technology during speeches. However, CNNMoney has an article weak on specifics that is dim on the short-term prospects of plug-in hybrids.
I'm betting we'll see concept plug-ins within a year, and the first production models in 2008 or 2009.
