MTV Overdrive, the media behemoth's much-heralded streaming video site, is finally available for Mac.
But only in Canada. No, really. Go to MTV.com right now and try to click on the exciting clip of Nicole's after-party on "My Super Sweet 16" (Why doesn't she care if you hate her? Find out!), and you'll be greeted by the condescending Sad Mac seen at right.
Go to MTV.ca and click on the same, exact link, and it will work, provided you're in Safari or Firefox and have the Windows Media plug-in, and it just works. I would test it with Flip4Mac, but I don't have it installed on this machine.
Now, the rule with regard to Windows DRM still applies – some clips won't play on a Mac for that very reason, even in Canada. But the videos they don't care about protecting are available. What a novel idea! Oh, and MTV podcasts are now available through iTunes. (iTunes URL) Keen.
What a stupid mess cross-platform software can be. If only everyone thought these things through as clearly as Google has.
