On the battlefield, bunkered foes are rarely willing to engage in a game of Marco Polo. So Darpa, the Pentagon's gadget lab, developed the Radar Scope, a motion detector that can tell whether someone - say, an AK-wielding adversary - is lurking in the next room. Roughly the size and shape of a Sony PSP, the device runs on AA batteries and uses highly focused Doppler radar to detect movement (as slight as a person's breathing) through concrete or brick up to 12 inches thick. A meter on the side lets the user know if the coast is clear, or if it's time to lock and load. The Feds will arm soldiers in Iraq with the Radar Scope this spring for use in their never-ending war game of hide-and-seek.
