Scientists (and High Times readers) have long known marijuana is an effective antiédepressant. Of course, it also gets you stoned. So a team of university researchers in the US, Canada, and Italy developed a pill that delivers pot's mood boost without-making you want to lie on the couch and gnaw Red Vines. Unlike pot or the synthetic substitute Marinol - which flood the brain with THC - the drug URB597 (that's, uh, "herb" for short?) lights up the brain's cannabinoid receptors by blocking the breakdown of anandamide, a neuroétransmitter that fights pain and manages stress. The result is emotional uplift without the duuude factor. - Sean Cooper
