Got some interesting responses to today's column ("Older and Softer Could Be Better").

One man told me that on my deathbed when I look back over my life, all I'm going to see is porn. (And that's a bad thing?) Oh, and that I live like an animal. And, "As others have probably told you, your material is thoroughly, thoroughly disgusting. I cannot believe the inherent decency and shyness in girls has degraded over the centuries into this...a woman who is not ashamed to write entire articles advocating things that once upon a time were the domain of prostitutes."

Another man thanked me for helping him continue a conversation with his girlfriend about erotic movies they might watch together. They are "exploring the sexual aspect" of their relationship and she's willing but shy. She has an open mind but is a newbie to the idea of porn; this reader has forwarded her the link to my column to show her that yes, smart girls do like porn. And it's not all eXXXtreme, either.

To the first, I replied "I'm glad to hear you've found your path. Thanks for sharing." To the second, I sent some recommendations for where he and his girlfriend can find quality erotic video for newbies.

It's interesting, the range of response you get when you talk openly about sex, isn't it?

Oh, and then there's the reader who wrote to recommend Russian erotic literature from the past two centuries. I haven't replied yet, as it's a long, complex email and I have only had time to skim it.
