Roadtrippers looking to keep the kids entertained will soon be able to download movies to their vehicles while at the Gas 'N Go.

Oxford Media will soon begin testing a system for delivering full length movies to car entertainment systems via WiMAX. The company wants to place WiMAX towers at gas stations, rental car agencies and hotels and signed a deal with vehicle entertainment company Vizualogic to enable downloading movies to automobile hard drives.

Oxford Media hopes to have downloadable movies available from some locations by the end of the year.

Vehicular WiMax will be a niche market and could provide competition to satellite radio for audio as well as information services (checking email, local shopping guides). Also, having the broadband infrastructure in hotels will be a boon to business travelers.
