Launching today is a new service from the Netherlands called FeedXs. The site allows users to publish RSS feeds without a blog or a website of their own. The main difference between a FeedXs feed and a regular blog's RSS feed is that the content exists entirely within the FeedXs news feed. No links, trackbacks, or comments. Just plain old news published solely in RSS. As simple as that.
This enables people who may not be so web-savvy the ability to post informational updates about themselves to their friends and family, sort of like an email blast. Feeds are accessible by anyone with a newsreader, an RSS-enabled browser, or a My Yahoo account. Somebody has already used the service to periodically publish segments of last year's Chuck Norris meme.
Probably the coolest feature of FeedXs is the ability to publish feeds directly from MSN Messenger. You add a bot called “msn@feedxs.com” to your MSN contact list, and anything you type to the bot is published using your personal feed.
The system is easy to use and the publishing tasks can be automated. There isn't much customization available yet, but the slick site design and a hot idea are almost definitely going to gain the company some well-deserved momentum.
