Audi's first SUV incorporates technology that prevents post-collision car fires. The $50K Audi Q7 features the Battery Disconnect Safety Device from auto parts maker Delphi.

Audi says that most battery cables do not protect the circuit between the battery and the starter, so Delphi's technology "cuts the conductor in less than a millisecond after activation occurs, disconnecting un-fused cables from the battery before collision-induced damage can cause a short circuit."

The Audi A6 also includes the safety feature, which first debuted in 2004.

Since we have airbags as standard safety features, wouldn't consumers pay a little extra for some remedy (chemical fire extinguisher or otherwise) in case of sometimes fatal car fires? Buses are required to carry fire extinguishers, so why not offer a small extinguisher under the seat?
