Our in-house designer and user interface guru Jay Patrikios is all over the news today. About three years ago, Jay and his friend Matt Sly developed a cute little site called FutureMe.org which allows you to send an email to yourself at some point in the future. Most people use it as a service to remind themselves about the goals they once set and maybe haven't yet achieved. Some people use it just to say hi to themselves in the future.
If you're a faithful reader of Monkey Bites, you'll remember that we profiled FutureMe back when it first started getting a little buzz. Today, the story got picked up by the Associated Press, so they're being talked about on CNN, CBS, The Boston Globe, and so on.
So what's the reason for all the sudden attention? Our guess is that somebody (who probably works at AP) sent an email to himself back in 2002, and now he's received that long-lost letter from his former him. And, of course, anyone who's done the same has just been reminded how mind-bendingly cool FutureMe is. Or, it might have something to do with New Year's Resolution time being upon us. Anyway, we're happy to see our friends getting some publicity for a great idea.
Go ahead, check out FutureMe and send a mail to yourself. I'm awaiting mine sometime in 2008. I believe it says something about "Don't forget to re-charge the electric dog."
