The folks over at Artificial have constructed this list of what can best be described as web game mash-ups. Is that what best descibes this? We don't know. Maybe we'll go with their title of Art Games.
All of the games have in common some sort of hack, usually involving an exploitation of a web technology or simply some colorful culture commentary. For example, ASCII Unreal is a reproduction of the original Unreal game, except all of the graphics are rendered in green Cyrillic ASCII text on a black background a la 1982. Average Shoveler is a snow-shoveling "game" with no user input required, but the snow falling from the sky is actually made up of bits of news from internet RSS feeds. The Nerve Game pokes fun at Nerve Personals, and Super Mario Clouds is simply Super Mario Brothers stripped down to just the clouds in the sky. Truly Zen!
