The Biggest Game in Town, by A. Alvarez
"This book is about the superhigh-stakes poker games in Las Vegas circa 1983 - long before the adult playground was turned into a family vacation destination. At the time, the lavish lifestyle of high rollers was totally unknown to the average person. It's magnificent to read about what these guys were like. There's a real romance to sitting around a green felt table with all the other lights out, and just the sound of shuffling poker chips. It's a real equalizer. Poker draws on intelligence and math and people skills, and it gives me an opportunity to use all of those skills in a way that hopefully makes me a bit of money."
