Quentin Tarantino, the Cartoon Network, even Coca-Cola ads: Japanese comic books have transformed them all. Masanao Amano's new megaguide, Manga Design, celebrates the many subgenres (from lighthearted action and romantic comedy to historical fiction and erotic horror) and profiles more than 100 artists (including Spirited Away's Hayao Miyazaki and Astro Boy's Osamu Tezuka). As you'd expect, it's loaded with graphics, too: Manga Design packs 1,000 covers into 576 pages. If that's not enough, pop in the accompanying DVD for a tour of Tokyo's largest manga store.
