Players are able to micromanage every aspect of warfare, as well as rule the empire. The centerpiece of the game is its real-time battles, which occur on lush battlefields in vibrant 3-D.

The History Channel is the first TV network to utilize a not-yet-released PC game to visually re-create some of the epic battles in Roman history. Decisive Battles, a 13-episode, half-hour series that debuts July 17, uses Rome: Total War, a PC game by The Creative Assembly, which Activision will publish this fall.

Rome: Total War allows players to create epic battles between warring factions based on meticulous research by the developers.
