What's the best way to predict the future? The answer is right in front of you, but it can't be read in the usual fashion. The Alan Kay quote on these pages is written in a new typeface designed by Ji Lee. Using Adobe Dimensions, Lee modified Univers - the font used in the sentence you're now reading and throughout Wired - spinning each capital letter 360 degrees around a vertical axis. The resulting 3-D alphabet is both playful and mind-bending. Concerned that traditional typography has long imposed limitations on how we experience language, Lee constructed his ABCs and his book, Univers Revolved, symmetrically so that they can be read logically from either side. "Reading becomes not only an intellectual experience," says Lee, "but a physical one." No need to break a sweat here; we've provided a key.
