Unlike the Scouts, Ranger robots have fairly powerful on-board processing capabilities, including Intel Pentium computers that can be used to control the Scouts and process the data gathered by the Scouts’ sensory equipment. Localization and position sensing is accomplished through the use of GPS, magnetometers, tilt-meters and accelerometers.

Each Ranger robot, another type of robotic team leader, will have its own group of Scouts that it deploys and controls to achieve mission objectives.
