DJs remix tracks on wax. Alyn Silberstein whacks pics on his Mac. His MO: Plug a mundane snapshot - like this image of a cookie tin from a Vietnamese grocery store - into Synthetik's Studio Artist app and let it rip. Silberstein mercilessly warps and transforms the picture until unexpected patterns emerge, then uses an Epson 9600 large-format printer to turn each 700-Mbyte file into a 5.5-foot-tall digiscape. A painter for 20 years, Silberstein loves the scalability of his new work: "Some artists get pissed off when a prospective buyer says that a painting isn't the right size for their room. I just say, 'You want a smaller one? I'll make you a smaller one.'" Silberstein's lyric abstractions are on view through May 2 at Minneapolis Institute of the Arts.
