Romance videogames aren't just for lonely Japanese guys anymore - the latest ren'ai titles for PlayStation 2 now target girls. In Tokimeki Memorial: Girl's Side and the best- selling Kimagure Strawberry Café, the protagonist is female, and her goal is to snag a boyfriend. Pick your favorite fella, pursue him through the branching story paths, and maybe you'll end up living happily ever after.
"I play them because I want to fall in love," says Ayuka Nishida, 16. "They have boys of everyone's type."
For variety, NEC's Private School Heaven: Boy's Love Scramble! puts girls in the role of a male student dating other high school boys. "I don't think they are gay," Nishida asserts. "Their love is pure and not about sex." Uh, OK.
