Tokyo has always been known for its "love hotels," elaborately designed spaces where denizens of one of the most densely populated cities on earth can steal a few moments' intimacy. Now some of the city's brothels are just as carefully appointed. Known as imekura, short for "image club," these imitations of quotidian spaces offer a fantasy that comes complete with a woman who plays the part – whether that's a secretary in an office or a commuter on a subway. As Kyoichi Tsuzuki's photographs show, they're mundane rooms transformed into fantasy chambers – and vice versa. In a city where anything seems architecturally possible, the ultimate erotic fantasy is that of everyday existence.
