The airport in Yakutsk is sparse. Trucks and cars pull right up to the plane alongside the stair vehicle, and there are no terminals. The travelers step out onto the runway and quickly into an escort’s van.

Filmmaker Jim Hall reports that while flying in low to the airport in Yakutsk, no sign of life at all can be seen. At 300 feet, he spots a road with some some vehicle tracks in the snow, a smokestack and plowed rectangles of land.
