British Telecom
British Telecom wants to reinvent the flower. BTexact Technologies, the company's research arm, has designed a desktop bouquet that monitors your email, IM, landline, and mobile phone. Assign each of the 10 lightbulb-tipped stems to a relationship you want to track, and a 3G-enabled service keeps tabs on your communications. When you've been out of touch with, say, Uncle Charlie for too long, his stem droops. When you've met your self-imposed quota, it perks up. Digital Flowers, which should hit the market in 18 months, will cost you up to $1,500 – the price of 25 dozen real roses you'll never again need to send.
