Dive bars are going digital. The Silver Peso, a watering hole outside San Francisco, is among 600 venues across the country outfitted with the first high-speed Internet jukebox. The NetStar currently offers Peso patrons a choice of 100,000 titles, from the obscure Austin Willacy to mainstream Eminem, and eventually will handle more than 700,000 songs from the five major and several indie labels. Compare that with the paltry 100-CD catalog of traditional jukeboxes. Customers willing to drop $1 a download (or 50 cents for tracks stored on NetStarés hard drive) can search Ecastés catalog by song, artist, or album title using the touchscreen. Some models also offer Web access, so patrons swept away by a song can order the CD on the spot from Amazon. Now thatés plug-and-play.
