THE HOTEL ROOM AS A TEST BED FOR DESIGN
Joel Sanders� 24/7 Hotel Room is a dream come true for weary travelers. His concept: provide all the amenities of a luxury spa with all the utility of a corporate apartment. Frosted walls that double as video screens descend from the ceiling to partition the space. On one side, you get a quiet conference room; on the other, your spouse gets a private showing of HBO. The installation is part of New Hotels for Global Nomads, an exhibit opening at the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in New York on October 29. Along with Richard Barnes� seductive photos of the grande dames of Las Vegas and a Space Station habitation module, the show highlights the hotel�s role as a test bed for design and technology.
