The nerds on Comedy Central don't claim to know everything, just more than you do. As stars of the weeknight game show Beat the Geeks, Paul Goebel, Marc Heuck, and Andy Zax (pictured) get paid to outsmart contestants in pop culture trivia. The program, now entering its second season, is about to add viewers to the mix; starting August 12, PC users can play along online (www.comedycentral.com) and trash talk in live chats. The highest scorers may be asked to appear on the show alongside the resident experts as "guest geeks." To give you an idea of what you'd be up against, Wired quizzed Goebel — the self-proclaimed King of TV.
WIRED: What are the names of the two robots who heckle movies alongside Mike Nelson on the Sci Fi Channel's MST3K*?*
PAUL GOEBEL: Crow and Tom Servo. The other robots are Gypsy and Cambot.
Yup. Name the Alias actor who, much like Q in the James Bond films, develops the gadgets for SD-6.
Um. What is that guy's name? The short dude. Kevin Weisman.
Right. Which Law & Order star portrayed an alien baseball player on The X-Files*?*
Jesse L. Martin.
Yes. Finally, one from the golden age of television: What mid-'90s public affairs show featuring Wired personalities was created on the Internet and later broadcast on MSNBC?
Uh, hmm. Anything I'd say would just be a guess. You'd be impressed if I knew this, yes?
Give up? The Netizen*.*
I've heard of that.
