SPLURGE
Think Outside Stowaway
The Stowaway - one of the first PDA keyboards on the market - remains king. Like something out of a James Bond movie, the 3.6-inch-long case unfolds on three hinges to reveal a full-size keyboard and an integrated PDA stand. The key placement is right-on, allowing touch typists to push ahead at full speed. Unlike the others, the 7.9-ounce unit is available for most PDAs and an increasing number of cell phones.

BEST BUY
Logitech TypeAway
If you need a portable keyboard for occasional marathon note taking, consider the TypeAway. It's small, light, and affordable. To avoid typos, you'll need to practice (the spacing between characters is tight), and because it's new, the 5.3-ounce device is sold only for Palm's latest PDAs. It morphs from about 5.3 inches in length to roughly 11 when open. At 3.4-inches deep, it's nearly 2 inches smaller than the Stowaway.

OVERRATED
Logitech KeyCase
At first, this foldable fabric keyboard seems like an engineering marvel. Roll it flat and use its built-in stand to prop up your Palm m125 and type. Wrap the 10.7-inch-long keyboard around your PDA to protect it from scratches and accidental impacts. Unfortunately, although the 5-ounce KeyCase is great for attracting attention, it's difficult to use because you have to press so hard on the closely spaced keys.

$100, www.logitech.com.
