Political Fictions (2001), by Joan Didion
"Didion is devastatingly successful in driving any sane American away from the organized political process. Reading her reflections on campaign adventures, including all the presidential elections between 1988 and 2000, is a bit like watching a horror movie: You hate every minute of it, but you can't leave the theater. This book made me want to reach for the Jack Daniel's - which is not to say that I regret having read it. Every sentence is gorgeous."
