All-weather cashmere
The cashmere windbreaker. It sounds about as logical as a Jell-O suspension bridge. But that's the appeal of this jacket designed by Yves Behar for Lutz & Patmos.
Its raw wool has been washed in a Teflon bath, a process that coats the fibers and makes them weather-resistant. The treated material, which looks and feels like cashmere, blocks wind better than regular wool or fleece. As for the rain, well, I'm not dumb enough to wear a $1,100 sweater in a downpour, but it kept me cozy in a sprinkle and sure made it easy to sponge off a coffee spill.
The garment can be handwashed countless times without losing its effect and comes in four sumptuous colors, including legume. With its handy nylon carrying case, the windbreaker can be tossed in a gym bag without concern for leaky toiletries or other ruinous items - not that the jacket itself couldn't handle the assault.
