Sony Online Entertainment's multiplayer game Everquest has 410,000 residents, and based on online auction sales of avatars and booty, their annual output would be worth almost $1 billion. That's enough to make Norrath the 77th wealthiest nation, just behind Russia. Edward Castronova, an econ professor at Cal State Fullerton, drew his conclusions from World Bank rankings and data from auction sites and an online survey.
