Best farm sim ever
The object of Herdy Gerdy is to, well, herd. Despite this, the PS2 game is strangely addictive and absolutely gorgeous.
As Gerdy, you hone your shepherding skills by corralling fictional creatures toward various goals. This is not an easy job - there are more than 20 species, each with distinct behaviors. The aggressive Gromps, for example, might eat the chickenlike Dupes for lunch if you place them too close together. That's where the ecology of the game really comes into play.
Once you get good enough, you can take on the evil Master Herder, who has put Gerdy's father under a sleeping spell. Beating the Master awakens him and ends the game.
The nonlinear nature of the task allows players to explore sprawling ecosystems alive with butterflies and hand-drawn shadows. The cinematic richness looks so much like cel animation, it succeeds as a playable cartoon.
