Forget choking down that daily horse pill - beginning this spring, you'll be able to get your RDA of vitamin C just by getting dressed. Tokyo-based Fuji Spinning has developed a manufacturing process known as V-UP, which stabilizes vitamin C in both natural and synthetic fibers. When worn, a V-UP garment's emulsified provitamin is dissolved by oil on the skin's surface and absorbed into the body. A T-shirt like this one contains the same amount of vitamin C as two lemons. Although its potency gradually decreases over time, the shirt remains active up to 30 washes. V-UP fabrics will be used for socks, lingerie, and other close-fitting garments. Fuji Spinning is testing more vitamins, and, according to spokesperson Makoto Suzuki, it's "considering the application of this technology for medical use." Just think: aspirin-infused scarves and Prozac panties.
