This thrill-filled snowboard romp is more adrenaline rush than athletic competition. SSX Tricky beats last year's release with six new characters, two bonus levels, and Xbox, GameCube, and PS2 versions. The GameCube prototype I played looks spectacular. The tracks are fresh and loaded with realistic mist, sculpted moguls, and vertical cliff drops. Each of the 12 characters was outfitted by Hollywood stylist Meg Freeman (of Alien Resurrection fame). Their personalities are revealed in the insults they hurl at the starting gate ("Look out below, suckers"). Need more attitude? The soundtrack is a turntable-attack by Run DMC and Mix Master Mike.
Although players get points for speed and trick ingenuity, the easiest way to remove competitors is by crashing into them. I became the butt crack-baring Luther and knocked the others out of play. I didn't win any friends, but I did nab a medal.
