Bold Endeavors: Lessons From Polar and Space Exploration, by Jack Stuster "A Mars trip would take three years, and boredom and compatibility are a problem - you don't want the astronauts to come to blows over a game of Risk. One thing Stuster learned from Antarctic missions is that bad films are key: A good movie can be enjoyed a few times, but watching a really bad one can become a favorite group activity. Theme dinners and drag queen competitions can also add color to the long, dark night. Personality-wise, crew members must be emotionally stable, tactful, and easily amused."

The Ambient Century: From Mahler to Trance, by Mark Prendergast "Prendergast traces how ambient music progressed along with technological advancements and drug use in popular culture. As a kid in the '70s, I loved listening to Brian Eno, who defined the genre back then. His introduction to the book is what initially drew my attention. In it, he explains that portable stereos revolutionized music because they let you carry pieces around with you and make them the soundtrack to your life. This idea spoke to me, since I often use ambient as the background score to my mind and my work."
