Parishioners at the Hoffmantown Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico, will have to do without their pastor this month - Dale Coffing will be at PC Expo, working the Microsoft booth. This man of God bought his first handheld in October 1999 to help him track the names, birthdays, and prayer requests of his 11,500-member congregation. Inspired, he soon launched his own Web site, Pocket PC Passion (www.pocketpcpassion.com), which serves up tips, how-tos, and commentary to more than 13,000 visitors each day. Since last September, the former mechanical engineer has been a Microsoft consumer liaison - a volunteer consultant who makes trade show appearances. And as Redmond's pocket PC pundit, he's paid to review new interfaces and critique products. "He has this calm, persuasive enthusiasm that's almost hypnotic," says Microsoft product manager Derek Brown. Coffing's devotion to the mini-PC has only brought him closer to his mission. His Compaq iPAQ stores five translations of the Bible. "I can look up sacrifice and it lists 157 instances right here," Coffing points out. "It's way more efficient."
