The Gist: Tactical Armor Vs. Armageddon
$29.98

Gasaraki takes anime's wildly popular and dark offshoot genre, mecha (as in mechanical), way beyond the Cartoon Network's Gundam Wing. Originally shown on TV in Osaka, Japan, the series plots the power plays between two companies, each developing weapons called Tactical Armor. Young TA pilots Yushiro and Miharu find themselves at the center of a master plan to unlock an unimaginably destructive force.

Fusing traditional chants and contemporary electronic Japanese music, the opening theme song hints at the series' distinctive historical mesh. Yushiro's ancient Noh dance lends a spiritual dimension often lacking in the genre.

The DVD's bonus materials - production notes, annotated character sketches, and glossaries - merely top off a series that can already stand with giants like Akira and Ghost in the Shell.
