Sometimes convenience justifies cost. The SoundsGood MP3 module for the Handspring Visor is pricier than other players with 64 Mbytes of memory, but I liked the fact that I could attach it to my organizer and not have to carry another device.

Because SoundsGood works with USB, you can fill the player to capacity (about an hour's worth of music) in a little over four minutes with transfer rates of up to 250 Kbps. The module currently works with Windows-based PCs; a Mac version is due out this month.

During one morning's bus ride, I put the plug-in to the test. I liked its sound quality (the device uses a relatively new, top-quality sound chip). And few MP3 players have a bigger navigation screen; I could control the player easily via the Visor screen or buttons on the device. By contrast, I found that SoundsGood's rival, Innogear's MiniJam, has a clunky design and drains the Visor's battery quickly. SoundsGood simply provides great tunes with less tonnage.

SoundsGood: $269. Good Technology: www.good.com.
