GAME
RollerCoaster Tycoon lets you hover over theme-park patrons like a benevolent god, making sure they're fed, comfortable, and entertained. Through a pop-up screen, you can read their putative thoughts - and when they're unhappy, you can unleash a plague of concession stands, rides, and entertainers in bear suits.
Unfortunately, the interface isn't always as intuitive as it could be, and tweaking your park's parameters can soon seem like point-and-click busywork. But the game's main attraction is building roller coasters. You can curve and curl them sky-high, then send them rocketing into underground tunnels and through splashy water flumes.
The more thrills and originality in your coasters, the more popular they become. And if shoddy workmanship or bad luck causes one to crash, sending customers to a horrible death, don't worry: The public will steer clear for a while, but return once the dreadful incident fades from memory.
