BUZZWORD
Ever since Al Gore claimed to have invented the Internet, all that's left to fight over are fragments of Net protocol. Sun Microsystems' ads proclaim "We're the dot in .com," a strangely opaque boast even for a tech company. Network Solutions counters that its employees are "the dot com people," brazenly ignoring Sun's claim that they put the dot there in the first place. GTE, seeing the dot-com territory hopelessly crowded, claims "we put the @ symbol in your email address."
So far, bragging rights to the slash and the colon are wide open.
