Music on the Move on the Cheap

Vertical Horizon uses CD-audio chips, instead of CD-ROM technology, to bring down the price -- and the size -- of hybrid CD and MP3 players. By Jennifer Sullivan.

Vertical Horizon is gunning to make the cheapest MP3 gadgets around, including battery-powered headphones that store MP3 files in memory.

Vertical Horizon, based in Garden Grove, California, has also developed a stereo component and a portable Sony Discman-like device that plays both regular audio CDs and CDs burned with MP3 files.
