MEATSPACE
Buckets of popcorn, a peanut-strewn floor, and VCs as likely to carve their names in the tables as cut a deal. Such is the lore of the Dutch Goose, a Silicon Valley dive bar with an upscale clientele. The Goose has the full complement of Stanford faculty and students, tech-industry bigwigs like Intuit chair Bill Campbell and the Institute for the Future's Paul Saffo, and jock-geeks from HP - all turning sauce time into a powerful networking opportunity. "You see all types here," says Tom Moroney, owner of the venerable bar, where patrons can get a meal and a game of pool for five bucks. "Mercedes-Benz and fur coats, blue jeans and painters." What do they eat? Burgers, chicken sandwiches, and spicy deviled eggs. What are they drinking? Beer, beer, and, natch, beer.
