The Journey (Real World)
The Journey combines Arabic ouds and dumbeks with the bedrock hand-drumming of black Africa. Aimed at the international market, with plenty of Western studio polish, the album hints at reggae, soca, funk, and techno. Mursal's vocals lend a gritty authenticity, while Somali oud master Salah Qasim and Egyptian percussionist Hossam Ramzy give the music its Afro-Arabic roots.
