Axent Technologies announced Monday that it will acquire Secure Network Consulting, a computer security consulting firm, to supplement its security software.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Secure Network Consulting, a closely held company based in San Antonio, Texas, helps businesses decide what kinds of security measures they need to protect their data. The company will operate as an independent subsidiary of Axent.
Axent Technologies (AXNT), based in Rockville, Maryland, is one of the biggest vendors of network security computer programs. It competes with the likes of Network Associates (NETA). To compete against bigger rivals, Axent will provide consulting.
"Secure Network Consulting knows security," said Brett Jackson, executive vice president of sales and marketing. "This business is more than just products."
Jackson declined to disclose terms of the acquisition.
Axent's stock fell 37 cents on Friday to US$19.75.
