Nickelodeon, Broderbund in Animation Deal

The innovative cable programmer cuts a deal with the edugame software firm to put Rugrats, Ren and Stimpy, et al. on CD-ROM. Also: Macromedia creates a site to show off new Shockwave and other multimedia tricks.

On the cartoon front, Nickelodeon today announced it will be turning its animated properties into a CD-ROM series. Extending a current partnership with Broderbund, Nickelodeon will release two Nicktoons games in 1999, leveraging the Nickelodeon Rugrats characters (already the subject of a Broderbund game), as well as Ren and Stimpy, Angry Beavers, Kablam!, Real Monsters, and other upcoming titles.

Macromedia's promo site: will launch a new entertainment site on 18 February called ShockRave, a site demonstrating the capabilities of the company's Web animation tools through a series of cartoons and games. A number of recognized names will provide "exclusive" content in the line-up, including Columbia TriStar, Disney, Comedy Central, and United Media (which controls "Dilbert"), as well as game companies SegaSoft and Broderbund.
