Pranksters sullied Fox Interactive's Web site this morning, replacing the homepage with an alternate, cryptic greeting. The page lay vandalized for several hours, until it was detected by technicians hosting the site early this afternoon.
Other than the greeting, no data appeared to have been changed.
Unlike Monday night's fleeting attack on Yahoo, this hack did not appear to be politically motivated - instead, the message was influenced by Fox's popular TV show The X Files.
Upon connecting to www.fox.com/, users were greeted with one of two pages - "black.html" and "white.html" - neither of which were Fox's. Each bore the message, "Sorry Scully I can't give you my heart cause it belongs to the beautiful, wonderful Heike and NOTHING can change it!"
The statement appeared over an altered graphic file of 20th Century Fox's logo. Beneath the logo, the following statement appeared: "Looking for me? Look at your Ass! Bastard!" The statement linked to the NBC Web site. Underneath the logo, another link taunted browsers with "Do you really want to look at the FOX's website?" - which connected users to Fox's "real" Web site.
A source at Fox said that the company has multiple Web sites for its separate divisions, each hosted by different providers. None of the other sites - such as Fox Sports Online and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment - were affected.
