It took Star Wars more than 20 years to get a museum exhibit dedicated to its creation; it only took current sci-fi craze The X-Files five. An exhibit opening Friday at the Hollywood Entertainment Museum in Los Angeles brings together props from the TV show's "early years" to give a behind-the-scenes look at Hollywood production.
Around 50 pieces of X-paraphernalia will be exhibited through December. Besides well-known props and weapons - including a shrunken head, Sculley's costumes, FBI "files," and the alien-killing stilettos - the exhibit will show how some special effects are created, such as rubber weapons and tools used for making giant footprints. Props will be exhibited with explanations of what they are and how they were created and used, plus plot backgrounds and interviews with X-Files personalities for reference.
Those looking for aliens and monsters might be disappointed, however: There's only one alien fetus in an Erlenmeyer flask, since most of the shows' aliens and monsters are created from makeup rather than props.
