SonicNet Buys Trouser Press Record Guide

The spinoff of the defunct music magazine is expected to go live on or around 1 February.

SonicNet, which was acquired by Paradigm this month, has cut a deal with editor Ira Robbins to publish an Internet edition of Robbins' underground classic pop music encyclopedia, the Trouser Press Record Guide, top-level sources told Wired News on Friday. The Net spinoff of the guide, itself a spinoff of the defunct music magazine Trouser Press (1974-84), is expected to go live on or around 1 February.

The Internet site will include the complete contents of the fourth edition, with "additional bonus material." A fifth edition of the book has an official publication date of 7 March, but will probably hit stores a few weeks earlier, says Robbins. The project had been underway since before Paradigm's aquisition of SonicNet.
