The Dutch techno-anarchists formerly known as Hack-Tic have announced that their next hacker convention/techno-festival, Hacking in Progress, will link up with the New York City gala Beyond HOPE, creating the largest underground hacker event ever held. The conferences, set for 8-10 August, will be connected via audio and video.
H.I.P. is being organized by the ex-members of Hack-Tic, the group that put on Hacking at the End of the Universe in 1993, gathering more than 1,000 hackers from around the world. Hack-Tic officially disbanded in 1995, but ex-members occasionally work together. Like H.E.U., H.I.P. will be set in a bucolic Dutch campsite, where people exchange information, share new technologies, and meet other hackers and hacker wannabes.
Beyond HOPE, a follow-up to Hackers on Planet Earth in 1994, is being held by the publishers of 2600 Magazine - The Hacker Quarterly. It should attract a major contingent of American hackers - and, like its cross-Atlantic counterpart, will draw a barrage of television crews, reporters, security professionals, and undercover agents.
