If you've been into computer games for a while, I can guarantee that you've played and loved Sid Meier's Railroad Tycoon. This cool strategy game puts you in charge of an upstart train biz and challenges you to make more money than the competition. Now there's Transport Tycoon, an unofficial sequel with sweet SVGA graphics and deep gameplay.
Transport Tycoon gives you not one, but four systems to manage: trains, planes, automobiles, and ships. You have to plan your routes making sure your vehicles get repaired regularly: it's hard to maintain good PR if your planes keep crashing into metropolitan areas. As time marches on, technology improves - trains become monorails, prop planes become jets - and you've got to upgrade your expensive, now obsolete equipment.
If the unthinkable happens and you get bored, Transport Tycoon lets you tweak the game parameters, from the type of currency used to the skill level of your computer opponents. Anal-retentive players will tighten their sphincters with joy at the level of detail.
The coolest feature is the two-player option. Who wants to play solo when you can humiliate a "friend" by kicking his sorry butt into bankruptcy?
