The CyberDen stands out among the growing music-based BBS competition. It is aimed at a particular genre of music fans: the goth and darkwave crowd, who have a passion for gothic imagery, bats, and black clothes.

Started by musician Peter Stone in 1991, The CyberDen features an impressive array of files leaning heavily toward electronic and gothic music. The most fascinating aspect of The CyberDen is the amount of nonmusic material on topics often of interest to underground music fans: anime (Japanese animation), UFOs, and the occult.

A number of independent labels, bands, and 'zines have their own "Cyberlink" areas on CyberDen that can also be accessed by anonymous ftp. Record labels like Cleopatra, Astralwerks, 21st Circuitry, and World Domination can be found here, though none seem to be using The CyberDen's FirstClass BBS software to its fullest potential. I would like to see more music samples and multimedia files.

Beyond the music and cyberculture contents, The CyberDen holds its own as a complete online service. There are Internet e-mail and Usenet newsgroups, as well as extensive software libraries for Mac, PC, Atari, and Amiga computers.

The CyberDen: +1 (415) 507 0333, modem +1 (415) 472 5527.
