Oh yeah, here's an idea. In Los Angeles, the city where nothing works and you should be afraid of everyone, there is a bit of a traffic problem (you may have heard about this). CalTrans has installed loops in the freeway pavement that can be used to indicate traffic speed. I'm in the radio broadcasting business and have learned that CalTrans has given a large contract to a company that "occupies several floors" of a large office building in Los Angeles, whose job is to format the data from these loops and make it available to the public through traffic services/radio stations. This raw data (the loop data) should be available to the public We pay for it, and if it was easily available in raw form, imagine what we could do with it Entrepreneurs would have it integrated into map and navigation instruments. Large companies (or anyplace) could have displays to help employees find the best way home. Delivery services could save hours!
