Motivated, as it were, "in part by Mondo 2000's decline in editorial content" a group of writers, graphic designers, and photographers in London banded together to start Black Ice magazine, a new member in the rising chorus of voices seeking to explore and articulate where technology is headed.

We've only seen the first issue (the second was printed after deadline). Tasty treats include an interview with Jon Cline and Mark Pellington - creators of the visionary (albeit canceled) 1991 MTV series Buzz, a naughty Star Trek TNG comics spoof, and a look at the inchoate world of Japanese junk food. Also inside is perhaps England's first take on Generation X, clever instructions on how to make a nuclear device, a lot of VR news (much vapor, some meat), and a semi-academic reading of movies-as-drugs. Unfortunate is the fact that interviews are exclusively Q & A - with precious little context, interpretation, or spin from the interviewer. Best quote: "Black Ice will develop a fully-functioning and integrated tele-dildonic system for anyone who will put up the necessary capital." If you're virtually horny and have some cash to blow, note info below. Recommended.

Black Ice, $32 for four issues, Titan Distributors (UK): +44 (071) 538 8300.
